"Opening of Oncology Unit"

at Lefkosa Hospital

2005 was a wonderful year for the Association, a year we can ALL be proud of.

The Oncology Ward at Lefkosa General Hospital was opened which has 28 beds. We completely renovated an old section of the Hospital, we rebuilt various rooms, it was completely re-decorated, new floors were installed, every item of equipment was provided, from the technical requirements to the furniture, beds, linen, desks etc.........the list was endless.

We have a wonderful Doctor; Dr Umut Disel, who has come to work and live here in North Cyprus, he has a number of staff working under him and we fund his salary plus the salaries of the nurses and two secretaries who make all the appointments etc.

Doctor Disel prepares articles, for our monthly newspaper, which he thinks is appropriate for the readers.

The building for the ward cost £250,000; we still owe £40,000 so please HELP if you can.

Future Projects

Radio Therapy Unit - we have been offered space in a new building being built behind Lefkosa Hospital for a new Radio Therapy Unit (Radiasyon Oncology Service Unit) and a ward for recuperation. This will be for citizens of the T.R.N.C. and is vitally necessary for the well-being and comfort of the patients and their families by avoiding relocation to foreign countries during their treatment and recuperation.

Tulips Hospice - we are looking for land and assistance in construction of a hospice here in the T.R.N.C.. Whilst all beds in the new unit are being filled by patients in the earlier stages of the disease, terminally ill patients who need and deserve dignified care are being sent home. This is good for neither patent or their families.

We are unable to start these worthwhile projects because of lack of funds - please help if you can.
