When Ottomans conquered Cyprus in 1571, the land, today known as Islam Graveyard outside of the Girne Castle was reserved as the Cemetery for Soldiers in the first years of the Ottoman era. It was used for the same purpose until the end of the 17th century. A cistern, water canals and architectural tombs were built

According to manuscripts dated 1300AD, the first origin of the old bazaar goes back to the Lusignan Period. At those times, there were no bazaar building. It was more of an open market area in which people could sell their goods. Everyday, the Cypriots came in with their agricultural products to sell in the market, but they had to be out by sunset, when the town gates were closed.

The location of the old market was opposite the large Round Tower where the Old Bazaar Bandabuliya building is now. Of course,, artisans such as blacksmiths, weavers, carpenters etc lived inside the town itself for the benefit of the French. The British invaded the island in 1878 bringing order and rules to the many public offices and municipal councils. Thirteen years later, the British rule on the island, according to the minutes of the year 1891, at the Municipal Council's yearly session, it was decided t0o establish a new Municipal Market Building (Town Hall).

The Old Bazaar has been restored by Girne Belediye into a touristic town hall which consists of cafes, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. One important attraction is the miniature replica of the Kyrenia Ship.

On the Eastern side of St Nicholas, it was built during British rule. Inside medieval grave stones and other statues.

Bellapais Abbey & Monastry

Girne

Takes it's name from the French Abbeye de la Pais and built between 1158 and 1205 and enlarged between 1267 and 1284. Spectacular example of Gothic architecture  on a rocky mountain top, south of Oazankoy village below the skirts of Five Finger mountains to the South-East of Girne with a wonderful view of the North coast.

Within the historical yacht port of Girne, a house of the 18th century now serves as a museum. Olive oil presses, primitive ploughs, cubes, a wooden threshing sled, agricultural tools, aloom for weaving, pulley wheels, woollen socks, wedding dresses, head scarves and such are also exhibited.

Selimiye Mosque

St Sophia Cathedral - constructed by the Lusignans between 1208 and 1326. Accepted as most important example of Gothic Architecture in Cyprus. A pair of minarets were added by the Ottomans in 1570 naming it Hagia Sophie Mosque. It was renamed to Selimiye Mosque in 1954.

Holding the oldest shipwreck ever discovered. The ship was probably Syrian which sank North of Kyrenia Castle in 389 BC. It was raised by experts from the Pennsylvanis University, USA

Venetian Column

In Ataturk Square near Kyrenia Gate, moved it's original home in Salamis. A tribute to Venetian rule in Cyprus. On top was the Lions of St Mark and at the base, the coats of arms of noble Venetian families. The bronze orb currently atop the column was placed their by the British in 1915.
